Grandparents Photoshoot

We left it right up until the very last evening before getting out of our own way (and with the weather cooperating, finally) to do a grandparents photoshoot! But the photos turned out so good, what was going to just be a personal album of photos, we decided to share with you all too. We will certainly be framing a good handful of these… now I just need some more wall space to create a major gallery! Haha.

GRANDPARENTS PHOTOSHOOT

Everley & Ayla’s, GiGi & Grumpy came to visit for six weeks around bub’s expected due date. And we knew we wanted to make sure we captured some special memories of the kids with my parents and had been planning on heading to Kansas City for photos. But by the time Ayla arrived, we weren’t as keen on the travel and the weather kept playing games with us! So, what was quite literally the final moments we spent together on this trip, we decided to take along the camera and get some nice shots of our little growing family.

Everley was taught, what we call, the “Grumpy Chant”, where she pumps her arms up and down and chants “Grumpy, Grumpy, Grumpy”…

She would play games with Grumpy when he asked her to do the chant, and would instead start chanting everyone else’s names but his. Cheeky chops! He loved it though, and so did she. She had an absolute blast having them here and giving her all the attention that we felt she would miss out on compared to her normal everyday life, while we adjusted to having to split our attention with another little babe.

Ayla also was getting so used to having her GiGi and Grumpy around. With Grumpy having a certain calming technique, we would always pass her off to him when she was unsettled, then once she had soothed, Gigi would swoop in and snuggle her for hours! Our beautiful girls have had so much love and attention recently, as have we, having the extra helping hands around to take care of us all. It’s been the most lovely time!

If you hadn’t noticed, Everley is not camera shy! She also loves to pose and remembers things I’ve asked her to do at other shoots like leaning against a wall. So the above picture was taken at Everley’s request, where GiGi & I both copied her and I actually LOVE this shot! Especially with that little story behind it.

Evie is also really into squeeeeeeze cuddles. Yes, I spelled it that way so you would read it how she says it. SQUEEEEEEEZE cuddles! So doing a grandparents photoshoot wasn’t too difficult as all she wanted to do was say “baskeddy” (her version of ‘spaghetti’, Grumpy’s idea) instead of “cheese”, and be tickled… which resulted in her pulled the most adorable little smiles!

Having my family around me at this stage in my life is often infrequent and fleeting, it seems. But when we do manage to make visits possible, my heart grows a size, it overflows with joy and bittersweet happiness having them around. I relish the time we get to spend together, and as visits are few and far between, I cherish the moments we have and we seem to make the time count more. But it is so hard letting go and saying goodbye until next time, often not knowing when next time will be.

GiGi & Grumpy, you have blessed us beyond measure with your love and support during this really difficult transition… we can only hope some of “you” rubs off on us as parents. We would be thrilled to follow in your footsteps, leaving the impressions you do on our, and our kid’s lives. We love you so much and are so thankful that you took the time to make this grandparents photoshoot so special!

Ayla wears the same eyelet romper from H&M and an old ivory bonnet from when Everley was born (similar one here).
